Yay for the getting over 100 hits :p. Well i know that most visits were by me only ;).

Now, back to work. I began today searching for a free host that could host my php test websites and all and quickly got to thisĀ amazing hosting site http://www.12gbfree.com/.

From the website:

  • 12Gb Webspace
  • 25Gb Monthly Data Transfer
  • Quad Core Linux Server
  • FTP Supported
  • MySQL Supported
  • 24/7 Technical Support
  • Web Statistics
  • Powerful Control Panel
  • Host your blogs / forums
  • 99.9% Uptime

Note: The hosting is ad-supported and their advertising script runs before the html code( including the doctype )which is known to break css in ie browser :S. Well another reason to quit IE and jump to a better alternative :P.

If you’re looking for an ad free host then check out http://www.110mb.com. This is what am currently using for my temporary site http://basitali.110mb.com :).

A project or task is no fun if it is completed without any problems :p. That’s right am stuck again with this port problem and no, the previous solution isn’t possible :(. Am now discussing this problem on a forum and hopefully will get it sorted out. Until then I might ask for another task to work on as I am just doing nothing but wasting my time over this task :S.

Yes we all do šŸ˜€ . . .

The solution to my previous blog is really working out. I’ve found an open source application that can forward incoming port requests to wherever you desire :P. So, now in combination with a slightly modified Red5 server and this application, I can complete my SIP phone task within a few hours.

I will update this blog with the source code and application links used as soon as I complete the task :).

But I already am working for very long now and need some rest ;). Plus I also have to prepare for my class tomorrow, so off I go.

Sippy :D

No doubt setting up Red5 and its Sip Phone Application is as easy as installing a simple application on your windows machine. But customizing the server according to your needs can cause a whole lot of trouble :S

Setting up an online flash based SIP phone was a big challenge for me here at SuperTec which I readily accepted and after days of googling, finally managed to successfully install it to our servers.

Here’s how this SIP phone works:

  • Whenever a user logs in through the SIP phone it will register the user on our Red5 server and will assign to a port in the range from 5070 to 5089 (it can be customized though).
  • He can simply call whoever he wants now from the SIP phone by simply dialing the destination number in International format or any other SIP number in the format userid@sipserver.
  • The phone can receive calls at myuserid@mysipserver:port.

Now here is where the problem starts. Each time a user registers itself he/she is assigned a different port and therefore to receive a call your caller needs to know your assigned port, which my dear is not possible :p.

The solution:

The only solution in my mind is to receive incoming connections on the default SIP port 5060, pass it to a port forwarding application that will check for the port assigned to the supplied userid and then forward the request to that port.

I don’t have any idea about how I will achieve it, but I believe in myself, my Allah, the Internet and the Open Source community :D, and I am sure I will succeed.

Hello world!
